Acholi MPs Compile List of Northern Uganda Atrocities.
Gulu The Acholi Parliamentary Group has commissioned an exercise to compile a list of all the atrocities allegedly committed in the two decades of insurgency in northern Uganda.
Reagan Okumu, vice chair of the Acholi Parliamentary Group, says the list will be complete in the next two weeks. He says it will be sent to the peace talks currently taking place in Juba, Southern Sudan, to contribute to discussions on accountability and reconciliation.
Okumu said the task force appointed will list atrocities committed both by the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels and Ugandan government troops from 1986 to date. He said the Woman Member of Parliament for Amuru, Concy Achiro, has been assigned to edit the report.
On Friday night both sides to the peace talks in Juba agreed to incorporate both the formal legal system and traditional mechanisms to achieve accountability and reconciliation for crimes committed by both sides during the two-decade-long conflict.
